How to Move a Project to Another Company or a Subproject to Another Project

Moving a project from one company/customer to another is done via the Belongs to field in Project Details.
Moving a subproject from one project to another within the same company is done via the Belongs to field in Subproject Details.

Only an administrator can make these changes.

If hours have been recorded for the project/subproject to be moved, they must be in Draft or Rejected status.
If hours are in Submitted, Approved or Locked status, the move won't be performed.

Impacts on Billing Information

Depending on how you have configured your billing, moving a project or subproject may have an impact on billing rates.

Here are some potential scenarios:

1) You move Project X from Company A to Company B. The billing rate for Project X is set at 50 USD per hour.
After moving Project X to Company B, the billing set for Project X remains unchanged.
Past and future records will have the same billing rate, 50 USD/hr.

2) You move Project X from Company A to Company B. The billing rate for Company A is 40 USD/hr and the billing rate for Company B is 60 USD/hr.
There is no billing rate defined for Project X.
After moving Project X to Company B, the billing rate for past records will remain unchanged (40 USD/hr).
New records will, however, reflect the billing rate defined for Company B (60 USD/hr).
You can always apply the rate defined for Company B to past Project X records using the Billing Method module.

3) Project X has a fixed billing fee of 10,000 USD and is divided into two subprojects: Subproject 1 and Subproject 2.
Subproject 1 currently has 50 hours recorded in it, representing 5,000 USD and a dynamic billing rate of 100 USD/hr.
Subproject 2 also currently has 50 hours recorded in it, representing 5,000 USD and a dynamic billing rate of 100 USD/hr.
You move Subproject 1 to Project Y, which has no billing rate defined.
After moving Subproject 1 to Project Y, the total number of hours for Project X changes from 100 to 50.
Subproject 2, with 50 hours recorded in it, now represents 10,000 USD and a dynamic billing rate of 200 USD/hr.
Subproject 1, under Project Y, now has no billing rate.
